Principle Investigator

Dr. Mauro Siragusa

Mauro (from Italy) obtained his MSc (summa cum laude with honours) in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine at University of Palermo, Italy in 2006 and his PhD in Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine at University of Bristol, England in 2010.

He joined the IVS in 2016, where he became a Principal Investigator in 2019. He has a long interest in the regulation of endothelial function through the eNOS-mediated post-translational modification S-nitros(yl)ation. Recently, the research focus in his group has turned to identifying the relevance and mechanisms of action of small open reading frame-encoded microproteins. He is also investigating the (auto)antigen repertoire of vascular cells and immunomodulation in cardiovascular disease as well as their regulation. He is a co-leader of the Graduate School “Integrated Research Training Group” of CRC1531 and involved in teaching for the MSc in Molecular Medicine and the elective courses of the Faculty of Medicine.
